Welcome To Division of Community Outreach at UTMB

sshelton.gifFor more than a century, the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) has served as a public trust to safeguard and advance the health of all Texans. The Division of Community Outreach was established to support that mission by bringing the educational and health care resources of the university directly into our communities.

On any given day, in both rural and metropolitan areas, members of our outreach team can be found working diligently to make a real and positive difference in meeting the health needs of Texas.

I invite you to look over our web site to learn about our many programs and services aimed at building healthy communities and improving the lives of all Texans.

Division of Community Outreach all staff retreat - Monday, November 20, 2006

Please reserve December 14, from 8 to 5 PM for participation in a very important event for our Division of Community Outreach. It is very important that all staff attend. It will be a time to get to know more about colleagues, find new collaborators, and share your ideas for doing the best we can in our work to address community health needs!

We will meet at Moody Memorial United Methodist Church on 53rd St., Room 204. We will be using a meeting format called open space technology to expand our program planning framework.

Open space enables each member of the group to create an agenda item for discussion, which follows with small group discussions on each posted topic. Each group is responsible for documenting their discussion and presenting it to the whole group prior to completion of the meeting. Discussion groups will have the opportunity to refine current work, explore and develop action plans for new ideas, and propose new strategies for consideration.  Open space has been a very effective process in the past, and I believe each participant has the opportunity to be an active part of discussion. It will be what you make of it! I look forward to seeing each of you there!
